Engaging the Sacred 2010 Attendees

Andy Bachman is Senior Rabbi at Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn. He is also the co-founder, with his wife Rachel, of Brooklyn Jews, and a faculty member of the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel.

Jason Brzoska is Chief Operations Officer of MyJewishLearning.com. He formerly served as Operations Director for the Bronfman Youth Fellowships in Israel and Technical Coordinator for The Curriculum Initiative. Jason is also a member of the board of the Jewish Studies Center at the University at Albany.

Sharon Cohen Anisfeld
is Dean of the Rabbinical School at Hebrew College in Boston. She formerly served as a Hillel Rabbi at Yale and Harvard as well as a faculty member of the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel. 

Shimon Felix is Executive Director of the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel. Ordained as a Rabbi at Yeshivat Hamivtar, he formerly served as assistant to the Chief Rabbi of England.

Wayne Firestone is President of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Previously, he served as the Director of the Israel Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League, and as Executive Director of the Israel on Campus Coalition. He has also been a lecturer at Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology.

Pnina Gaday is Director of Hillel at Tel Aviv University. She is a former participant in the JDC Amitim program, which empowers young adult immigrants from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union (FSU) to become leaders in Israeli society . Pnina has traveled extensively abroad representing Israel in many international forums and to Jewish communities worldwide.

Adam Gaynor is Executive Director of The Curriculum Initiative. Prior to working at TCI, Adam worked as Assistant Director of the Edgar M. Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Jewish Education at New York University.

Shai Held is co-founder and Rosh Yeshiva at Mechon Hadar. He served as scholar-in-residence at Kehilat Hadar, taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary, and is a Jacob Javits fellow in religion at Harvard University. Shai previously served as Director of Education and Conservative Rabbinic Advisor at Harvard Hillel.

Avital Hochstein is Rosh Yeshiva at Mechon Hadar and teaches Talmud at Yeshivat Hadar. She is the former Rosh Kollel at the Pardes Institute, and co-author of The Place of Women in Midrash.

Margie Klein is a Rabbinical Student at Hebrew College and the founder and coordinator of Moishe House Boston: Kavod Jewish Social Justice House. Margie is also co-editor of the new anthology Righteous Indignation: A Jewish Call for Justice and co-director of the Righteous Indignation Project, a national Jewish effort to voice progressive issues as religious priorities in the '08 election.

Taylor Krauss is Executive Director of Voices of Rwanda, which records the testimonies of victims of genocide. Taylor previously trained under Ken Burns while working as an associate producer on the seven-part series “The War,” about the American experience of the Second World War.

Alisa Rubin Kurshan is Vice President of UJA-Federation of New York for Strategic Planning.  She has served as Managing Director of the Commission on Jewish Identity and Renewal of UJA-Federation of New York and was the director of the Jewish Continuity Commission.  She received her Ph.D. in Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary.

Abigail Pogrebin is the author of Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk About Being Jewish. Abigail was a senior correspondent for Brill’s Content, a contributing writer for Talk Magazine, and a producer for Mike Wallace and Ed Bradley at "60 Minutes."

Nessa Rapaport is Senior Program Officer at the Charles H. Revson Foundation. She previously served as a senior editor at Bantam Books, and is the author of Preparing for Sabbath; A Woman’s Book of Grieving; and House on the River: A Summer Journey.

Joanna Samuels serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Advancing Women Professionals and the Jewish Community.  She previously served as Rabbi of Congregation Habonim in New York City and was ordained as a Rabbi from the Jewish Theological Seminary, where she was a Wexner Graduate Fellow.

Yehuda Sarna is the University Chaplain for NYU and Rabbi of the Bronfman Center. He and his wife, Michelle, also serve as the Educators for the Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus. Yehuda was awarded the Richard M. Joel Exemplar of Excellence from Hillel International in 2008, and was listed as one of "36-under-36 Changemakers" by The Jewish Week in 2009.

Daniel Septimus is Editor-in-Chief of MyJewishLearning.com. He hosts the 92nd Street Y's Jewish Literary Exchange. His literature column, "Reading between the Lines," is published monthly in the Jerusalem Post.

Becky Voorwinde is Director of Alumni Engagement for the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel. She formerly served as Corporate Responsibility Project Manager at Ernst & Young, L.L.P.

Avi Weinstein is the Head of Jewish Studies at the Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy in Kansas City. He formerly served as the Executive Director of the Bronfman Youth Fellowship in Israel.
